Navenby JFC v Barrowby Sharks U11’s
24th November 2013
First home win of the season for the U11’s
The second home game of the season was played in good conditions. Navenby had a squad of 9 players with only Al missing with his broken wrist. Navenby started brightly and took the lead through Ryan following a mistake in the Barrowby defence/goalkeeper. However the lead was shortlived as a poor goal kick allowed the Barrowby player to roll the ball into an empty net. Another lapse in the Navenby defence allowed Barrowby to score a second goal, again their player was unopposed. After a stern talking too, the team played much better in the second 15 minutes, and a mistake by the Barrowby goalkeeper allowed Ryan to bundle the ball home. Navenby were now starting to take more control with Toby and Thomas in particular having excellent games. Ollie was then fouled midway in the Barrowby half and from the resulting free kick he thundered the ball into the back of the net, giving the keeper no chance to save. Just before half time, again Ollie wriggled free and beat the Barrowby defence before scoring with his left foot. The second half started well for Navenby with 2 quick goals both from poor defending and both resulted in Ryan putting the ball in the bcak of the net. Barrowby kept battling and were awarded a penalty following a handball and despite Kieron’s best efforts managed to score. In the last quarter both sides tried for further goals and whilst the Barrowby keeper was the busiest, no firther goals were scored. In the end it was a good second win of the season for Navenby. The defence (Harv, Jess and Sammy) after the first 15 minutes got to grip with the attack of Barrowby, Toby and Ryan worked hard in midfield, Thomas ran well down the win and Charles tried very hard, Ollie had a few mazy runs and Kieron calmed down in goal and was allowed out pitch for the final 15 minutes as Ryan then went in goal.
