Navenby Juniors win last tournament of the summer.

Having come close in several tournaments over the summer Navenby Juniors U10 team entered a pre season tournament at Retford United, Just a week before their first U10’s league game of the 2013/14 season against Barrowby. With injuries and players on holiday the team drafted in a few extra players to help bolster the team.
Navenby started off with an edgy 0-0 draw against Babworth who didn’t really give a nervous Navenby side the chance to settle on the ball; with 6 more games to play Mark seemed happy with the result.

During the second game the Navenby squad seemed to settle quickly and ran out 3-0 winners against Walesby, with their first win under their belt the Navenby cruised into the semi finals with; 4 wins and 3 draws, topping the league table with 11 points 10 goals for and 1 against.

In the semi final Navenby played the home team Retford United who were feeling confident after their narrow defeat to the yellows in the previous game (2-1) and piping Bawtry to the semi final on goal difference. Unfortunately for the home side Navenby came out in confident mood and were quickly on top and by half time were leading the semi final 3-0, Mark made a few changes in the second half to rest a couple of players for the final. If it wasn’t for some excellent goal keeping by the Retford goalie.  Navenby could have added to their tally but it ended 3-0 with a final place booked against the winners of the other semi final Babworth v Worksop.

The Final:

Navenby started the final looking very nervous, with several misplaced passes they started to put pressure on themselves, unfortunately for Worksop they were unable to capitalise on their early dominance and were dealt a blow when Navenby hit them on the break giving them an early lead against the run of play. This seemed to settle the Navenby team and with another goal coming soon after the first the final looked all but over. Navenby scored again early in the second half and Worksop started to look like a beaten team, they battled well but the Navenby midfield were too strong and should have increased their lead, the match end 3-0.
