Opening day thriller for the U11’s at Pointon

Pointon Juniors v Navenby JFC – 29th September 2013

The first League game of the season saw 5 players making their League debuts for Navenby (Charlie, Kieron, Kyle, Ryan and Thomas). Unfortunately Sammy was ill and could not take part. The game was played in very warm conditions with Pointon having 12 players against Navenby’s 9 players. The first quarter was very tight with both sides caught offside a lot. At the start of the second quarter Navenby scored 2 quick goals through Ollie and Ryan and continued to press for the killer 3rd goal. At half-time it was 2-0 to Navenby. In the 3rd quarter Pointon switched their team around and started to create more chances and eventually they found the back of the net. Both sides then continued to have chances. As the game entered the final quarter, Navenby’s 9 players started to look a bit weary and it was no surprise when Pointon scored 2 quick goals to go 3-2 infront. Fortunately Navenby continued to press on the break and Ollie managed to equalize with a few minutes left. Both sides then pressed for the winner to no avail. The final score was 3-3. Very well done to the 5 new players who all acquitted themselves very well and should be pleased with their performances. The back 3 of Al, Jess and Harvey played very well as a unit, pushing up for offside very well for most of the game and Ollie scored his 2 goals and on another day could have had 5. This was a very encouraging display and hopefully over the next few games the team will be able to have 1 or 2 substitutes which will allow some of the players to have a rest during the game.

The next game: Grantham Town at home next Sunday kick off at 11.30am.
