Navenby crash out of the Cup in first round
Navenby’s injury worries took another twist this weekend with their goal keeper (Charlie) sustaining a hand injury at training on Friday. Lucas volunteered to stand in against a Barrowby team full of quality forwards.
To the surprise of most people watching Navenby took the game to Barrowby who spent most of the first 15 minutes on the back foot, with both Freddie and Kieran coming close to scoring. Unfortunately Barrowby’s quality showed through in the 13th Minute when Navenby’s make shift defence fell asleep allowing the home team the advantage against the run of play. Barrowby were two up within a minute as Navenby seemed to fall apart.
The second quarter saw Barrowby take the game by the neck as Navenby struggled to find an answer to the first two goals, and found themselves 3-0 down at half time.
Second Half
The second half started pretty much how the first half finished with the home team very much in control and the tie all but over.
Navenby rallied in the final quarter and came close to a consolation goal with Barrowby’s goalkeeper making a double save as Toby pounced on a loose ball in the penalty area.
The match ended 4 -0 to Barrowby which shouldn’t take away from a fantastic performance by Lucas in goal. Hopefully Charlie will be fit for our next league match against Leasingham and with Cody and Cameron available, Navenby should finally have a full squad to choose from.
