Grantham Town v Navenby JFC U11’s
6th October 2013
Navenby go top of the ONYX SPORTS WEAR GYFL U11’s League
The game was played in bright sunshine, and as Navenby only had 8 players with Kieron, Thomas and Noah unavailable, the match was played 8v8. The game was played in 4 quarters, with Navenby pressing from the off and scored 3 very quick goals, first a fine long range strike from Ryan, then the move of the match which saw Ollie put in a superb left footed cross for Ryan to volley home and then Ollie scored the third with some neat footwork. However during the second quarter Navenby seemed to switch off thinking they had already won the game and some good play by Grantham saw them pull 1 goal back as Sammy had no chance in goal with a fine strike. Navenby continued to make silly mistakes in defence and in the end they inadvertently gave the ball straight to Grantham’s striker who couldn’t miss. At that stage Navenby started to get going again and we saw some excellent runs from the back by Jess and Al creating further chances and eventually directly from a corner Ollie scored Navenby’s fourth goal. The half time whistle then blew. In the second half both teams pressed and all of Navenby’s player (Charles, Kyle, Al, Jess and Harv) had at least one shot on goal which was very encouraging. Every time Grantham thought they had broken through the off side trap they were thwarted by the speed of Jess and Harv or the positioning of Al and Sammy. As the game drew to a close it was Navenby who were still pressing which showed their great stamina at this early stage of the season, as Grantham had 11 players to Navenby’s 8. The game was played in a very good spirit with all the players enjoying the game.
