Navenby U11’s struggle against league leaders

Navenby JFC v Colsterworth Colts U11’s – 7th December 2013

Navenby fielded a full squad of 10 players for the first time this season as they welcomed back Al following his broken wrist. This was always going to be a very difficult game against the league leaders but especially in the first half the game was very tight. The game was played in 2 30 minute halves. Colsterworth took an early league with 2 own goals following shots which hit a Navenby player and deflected past Kieron in goal. Navenby started to play some really good football and deservedly Ollie scored a fine solo goal before clipping in a free kick which the Colsterworth defender deflected onto the crossbar. At the start of the second half Colsterworth started to apply a lot of pressure which eventually began to tell through a third goal. Colsterworth then scored a fourth goal, when the referee deemed that the ball had crossed the line and soon afterwards a penalty was awarded to Colsterworth which baffled the players and spectators. Ryan who had now taken over from Kieron in goal managed to save the penalty kick. As Navenby tried to push forward Colsterworth hit them on the break and slotted home two more goals. The Final Score was 1-6, Colsterworth deserved the victory and will be very hard to beat this season with their strong squad.
