Barrowby YFC v Navenby JFC U10’s
14th September 2013 11:15 Kick-off
Navenby visited last year’s runners up for the first game of 2013/14 season; having played Barrowby 3 times last season and losing all 3 an under strength Navenby were hoping to improve on last years 3-2 away defeat. Alas this was not to be and with a well below par first half they gave a slick Barrowby team far too much respect and let them play a passing game.
Two of the first half goals were directly down to the new rule of the attacking side retreating to their own half on Goal kicks, Navenby struggled throughout the first half and looked vulnerable on each goal kick.
At half-time the score was 4-0 to Barrowby and they were good for their lead which could easily have been more, but for some fine defending on set pieces.
In the second half Navenby changed formation which seemed to take Barrowby by surprise, Navenby looked sharper and nearly scored straight from the kick-off. The more attacking formation worked well for Navenby and they were soon rewarded with a goal Barrowby’s Goal Keep was called on several times in the second half and made some great saves to thwart the Navenby attack.
Navenby needed 3 goals in the fourth quarter to draw level and were in confident mood and pushed to close the gap but this left then looking vulnerable to Barrowby’s counter attack as they pushed forward with Navenby’s defense often facing 4 Barrowby attackers. The Match ended 6-2 with both teams playing end to end football in the last in the last 15 minutes.
Navenby can take pride in their second half performance and certainly didn’t look like a team that were losing by such a margin.
The next league match is against Colsterworth at home on the 22nd of September.
